Last week we were very fortunate in being able to watch the New Zealand Opera Company perform a scene from The Barber of Seville; in which one of the main characters, Figaro, got to sing his very famous aria . . .
Room 12 had been discussing the powerful voices that opera singers need to have. We discussed the range of voices from soprano and alto through to baritone and base-baritone. We also shared some of the names of famous opera singers. This included the fictitious opera singer Bianca Castafiore from Tintin who can be seen here performing a glass-shattering aria (view from 56 seconds).
This got us thinking.
Can a human voice actually shatter glass, and if it can - why does it happen?
So now you know the secret to shattering glass with the human voice!
